Oppose House Bill 1365! Save Colorado Jobs! March 18, 2010 - 12:12 PM
Say No to HB 1365. Support Affordable Colorado Energy and Jobs
The Colorado Legislature may soon send Gov. Bill Ritter (D) a bill that will severely reduce the use of affordable coal-based electricity on Colorado’s Front Range, causing a massive spike in energy prices for Colorado families and businesses.
Urge your elected state officials to reject this bill. Write them today.
This bill is the unseemly product of backroom deals cut by lawmakers and lobbyists that actually gives electric utilities the ability to charge Coloradans more to cover the cost of modifying power plants to switch from coal to more expensive natural gas.
The so-called "Clean Air-Clean Jobs Colorado" (HB 1365) had its first committee hearing recently and could soon come to a vote in the state legislature.
Colorado is one of the largest coal-producing states in the nation. More than 43,000 jobs that pay an average of $65,000 are supported by coal mining in Colorado. Many of these jobs will be wiped out by HB 1365.
Gov. Ritter and state lawmakers need to hear from you.
ACT now and write to your elected state officials and urge them to support affordable Colorado energy and jobs.
